Dreaming BIG!
People say I dream BIG – most of the time, bigger than what life has to offer to me. And they are probably right, 99% of the time.
When I was in high school, I dreamt of being a writer when I finished my studies. Surprising myself, I became a copywriter at the age of 20 and was the sole writer in a small agency. I loved the job and the authority given to me to determine the copy on the advertisements. Honestly, my confidence level of being good enough at that time was only 50%.
At the age of 21, I became a magazine writer. Yet again, the sole writer in the publication assisting two editors with two magazines. Have I seen myself this far previously? Yes, but not at this young age – I thought I’ll be a full time magazine writer only when I turn 25. However, this success has taught me never to judge how far I could strive through age factor. Rather, I’ve learnt to look deep into myself to search for the gifts that God has given to me and expand on my talents and skills through open doors.
Then I went on and embarked on many more adventures that have proven to myself and the people around me that age does not matter. Age should never be a barrier for the young ones to rise up and be the person they want to be. Age should not stop a person from pursuing something something bigger than his/her life can contain. Because we have to dream big to achieve big; we have to aim high to fly in the sky.
Recently, I’ve set a higher standard for my personal goals because I want to achieve more. I want to learn more, experience more, excel and achieve more. And here are some goals, of which I would like to share with you. You can laugh till your sides hurt; shake your head and say, “You’re hopeless, Gina.” But you can never stop me from dreaming. And I’ll dream on until the day I put my head to rest.
- To be a novelist by the age of 25.
- To lead a team in publishing an inspirational magazine by the age of 26.
- To have changed and mentored 10 people by the age of 30.
- To be a CEO or Director by the age of 30.
- To have written 10 novels by the age of 35.
- To start the first Christian radiostation in Malaysia.
If you are done laughing at me, it’s about time for you to sit down and think about your own goals. How many of them have you achieved? How many of them are still sitting there waiting for you to crawl near? Are you seriously pursuing your dreams? How far would you go before you give up, or should you be giving up at all? What’s your token of sacrifice when it comes to running after a vision that is bigger than you?
I’ve given my thoughts to these questions and I know now what I want in life. I know exactly how to go about it and which paths to take. I can see clearly the complete picture that I will be painting and with that vision in mind, I would not lose focus. I will continue to run – to chase after a dream so beautiful, I know I’ll be happy just running and even happier when I get there.
Do you dream big, or are you afraid to dream at all? If you are dreaming, may I encourage you to dream BIG and make it even BIGGER! Because life isn’t about the daily bread and butter we need on our table; it’s about making life beautiful and meaningful through our pursuit of dreams.
