Our Broken Heart
A friend once told me, “No matter how hard we try to pick up the pieces, the moment our heart is broken, it would never be the same again.” And she is right. There is no way we could pick up every piece, splinter and chip of a broken heart. No matter how hard we try to glue our heart back into its perfect form, when someone pours water into it again, the cracks show. Sometimes, it starts leaking too.
I have my heart broken a couple of time. It doesn’t take a lover to break a heart. With loved ones in our life, our heart is bound to be broken – just a matter of how broken it can be. They say the more you love someone, the more you hurt the person. And they are right too. Because I have hurt the person I loved most and they have hurt me too. How then do we mend a broken heart?
We can try loving someone else. We can give our heart to a new love. We can wrap a shield around it for protection. We can let it crack and give up in love. We can blame others and try to hurt them too. We can dance in self misery and be depressed. But there is no way to mend a broken heart. What is broken would always remain broken.
We have to accept our broken heart and entrust them to the new loved ones in our lives. Let them love our broken heart. Let them carry the leakage with their love. Let them apply their magical touch of healing unto our heart. Let them show us how a broken heart deserves to be loved and love others in return. Because on our own, we cannot do it. With them, we can.
