Playground of Hope
Right in the middle of two busy highways,
Stands a girl with emptiness in her eyes.
She stares far ahead as cars zoom close by,
Looking at the line that divides the sky and ground,
Wondering if she will ever reach the end of the road.
Will there be an end to all these?
She takes her first steps, heading towards sunset,
Cars honk at her every time she almost tumble and fall.
Ignoring them, she walks on and on and on.
She knows exactly why she is there,
All alone surrounded by the busyness of everyone else,
Having all the eyes of the world on her.
She knows the reason fairly well.
Filthy dust fills her lungs as traffic thickens,
But it doesn’t stop her from walking on,
Doesn’t stop her from wanting to be lost,
In a world she could call hers.
Have her dreams expanded too much,
That she couldn’t contain them anymore?
Will life ever give her a chance,
To live those dreams birthed in her heart?
Each step digs deeper into the core,
Just one more step and she’ll find the hope,
That has always been there to pull her through.
The highway; her only playground of hope.

Like a child, we always seek refuge and hope in the very place that we could be ourselves. When the world turns her back on you and no one seems to understand, there is a place you can always go to where hope grows and confidence takes place. You can ask aloud the questions that disturb your mind, you can scream out loud the doubts you have inside. It’s this place that gives you strength to finish the race and accomplish your dreams. If you have to be alone to be strong, you just have to be alone to walk on.
